Dart Event Mechanics



The common tournament game of 501 (pronounced "Five-Oh-One"), is played from 501 points. Other variations are 301, 601, 801, 1001. The higher point games are usually played by teams. This will be determine during the event itself.

The object of the game is simple... each player starts with the same score (501, for example) and the first to reduce his score to zero wins.

Players take turns throwing three darts each and subtract all points scored from their own beginning score (501). Each player removes his darts and marks his score before the opponent throws. Darts that bounce off or miss the board do not score and cannot be re-thrown that turn.

The player that finish first wins or close the score wins, this is also known as "going-out". To win, you must reach zero before your opponent, but you must also reach exactly zero, and the dart that brings the score down to zero must be a double. Doubles consist of the numbers in the outside narrow scoring band and the center (small) bullseye which counts as 50 points and is an actual double of the outer 25-point bull.

For example, if you have 2 points left, you must hit a double-1 to bring the score down to zero.  For instance, you have 18 points left, a double-9 would work. If you have an odd number left (a number that cannot be divided by 2), then darts must be thrown to reduce the score to an even number, before throwing at a double. For instance, there is no possible double out from 19, so a way to finish would be to throw a single-3 first, reducing the score to 16. The 16 can then be "taken-out" by throwing a double-8.

Mechanics for Swimming

Three strokes, or styles of swimming, are contested at this swimming meet: freestyle, backstroke, breastroke. Swimmers race a variety of distances, ranging from 25 meters to 200 meters. Each stroke has specific rules as to how swimmers may propel themselves through the water.

Freestyle, often called the “crawl,” is the most flexible in its rules, and it is typically the fastest stroke. The only rules are that the swimmer may not push off the bottom of the pool or pull on the lane line, and must touch the far wall with some part of their body.

Freestyle is swum face-down with alternating arm strokes; side-breathing; and rapid, alternating up-and-down kicks. The Freestyle race will begin with swimmers doing forward-facing dives from either a starting block or the side of the pool.

In the return lap, swimmers can do either an open turn or a flip turn. When doing a flip turn, the swimmer does not touch the wall with his/her hand. Instead, the swimmer’s feet touch the wall. At the finish, freestyle swimmers touch with one hand.

Backstroke is often thought of as “upside-down freestyle.” As in freestyle, backstroke is swum with alternating arm strokes and rapid, alternating, up-and-down kicks. Unlike freestyle, the swimmer must be on his/her back, facing the sky.

When swimmers turn their shoulders more than 90 degrees, they are disqualified from the race for not remaining on their backs.

The only exception to this rule applies to the flip turn in multi-lap backstroke races: Swimmers may turn onto their stomachs for one arm pull, provided their arm movement is continuous. When their feet leave the wall, swimmers must be on their backs.

Backstroke races start with swimmers already in the water. Swimmers place their feet against the wall, and hold onto either the gutter or the grip built into the starting block.

At the finish of the race, backstroke swimmers must stay on their backs until they touch the wall, ideally with one hand.
Breast stroke

Breast stroke is often thought of as the “frog stroke,” as the kick is reminiscent of a frog’s kick. A breast stroke swimmers arms and legs must move simultaneously, on the same horizontal plane, and identically to each other.
The arms and legs stay mostly underwater, but a swimmer’s head must break the surface every stroke. So-called scissor kicks are not allowed.

The arm stroke begins and ends in streamline position. The hands scoop water out to the sides, before sweeping in toward the middle of the body and then shooting forward. Swimmers are not allowed to pull their hands down past their hips, and must keep their elbows in the water when their hands are shooting forward. On the breast stroke kick, swimmers must point their toes out to the side as the feet sweep out, around, and back together. For every arm stroke there must be one, and only one, kick.

Breast stroke races begin with a forward-facing dive from either the edge of the pool or the starting block. At the beginning of each lap, swimmers may do one pull-down: one huge pull, in which the hands sweep down to the thighs, and one giant kick to the surface. On the first stroke after the pull-down, a swimmer’s head must break the surface of the water.

At the end of each lap of a breast stroke race, swimmers must touch with two hands, simultaneously and on the same horizontal plane. In the return lap race, swimmers will use open turns, not flip turns.

·         Any rules broken will result in immediate disqualification of the swimmer.
·         The two swimmers (boy and girl) of each campus would swim each stroke simultaneously and their times recorded accordingly with the help of my assistants.
·         The swimmer has to back and forth for it to be considered a single lap.
·         The timing of each swimmer for each stroke will be recorded.
·         The lowest timing of the stroke will be declared the winner of that style.
·         The over – all champion will be based on his/her average time of all three styles.

AIE Quiz Bee 2011

Mechanics and Guidelines

The AIE College Quiz Bee will be held at Green Valley Resort and Hotel, Baguio City Philippines on December 09, 2011 in celebration of AIE College 8th Annual Anniversary.

1.      The contest is open to all AIE students officially enrolled this 2nd trimester 2011.
2.      Each AIE Campus is entitled for one (1) entry for General knowledge quiz bee.
3.      Entry is composed of two members, male or female.
4.      Entry must have one (1) adviser.
5.      Members must wear their school I.D. and foundation T-Shirt at the time of the contest.
6.      Members must be at the venue 30 minutes before the start of the contest.
7.      No registration fee will be collected from the participants.
8.      The coverage of the quiz bee are as follows:
General Knowledge Quiz Bee
                                                              i.      Mathematics (College Algebra & Trigonometry)
                                                            ii.      English
                                                          iii.      Social Science
                                                          iv.      General Science
                                                            v.      Current trends
                                                          vi.      Technology

9.      Each participating team must accomplish entry registration form provided and must be submitted on or before December 02, 2011 to the Chairman of Committee through email @

1.      Only recognized participants shall be allowed to take the contestant’s seat.
2.      In case a regular member fails to come, no replacements shall be allowed. One (1) member for each participating team is enough to proceed to the contest.
3.      Advisers are given a specific area where they can observe the contest and are not allowed to go near within the participant’s seats.
4.      The Quiz Master / Host will read each question twice which is projected in the screen.
5.      Questions shall come in the following forms:
a.       Multiple choice
b.      Identification
c.       True or False
d.      Problem Solving
6.      The quiz bee is divided into three (3) rounds.
a.       Easy (10 questions, 1 point each)
b.      Average (10 questions, 2 points each)
c.       Difficult (10 questions, 3 points each)
7.      No elimination is given for each round.
8.      Participating team is given 10 seconds time to answer each question for the easy round, 15 seconds for the average round, and 20 seconds for the difficult round.
9.      The end of each answer time given will be signaled by a buzzer and the participants are required to raise their answers for checking by designated proctors.
10.  The participants must write their answers on the Answer Sheets provided by the organizers and is required to answer using CAPITAL LETTERS only. Misspelled answers are rendered wrong.
11.  Once the answers have been checked, The Quiz Master / Host will announce the correct answer and correct answers will be reflected in the score sheets.
12.  There will be no penalty for any wrong answers.
13.  Only Advisers is allowed to protest as to the accuracy of an answer/question. Protest must be lodged with the technical panel composed of advisers from the different participating teams together with the committee before proceeding with the next question.
14.  Decision made by the committee in cases like number 10 occurs is final and must be treated with utmost respect
15.  Any team caught in an act of cheating or any form of dishonesty shall be automatically disqualified.
16.  In case of tie, a tie-breaker question shall be given and the winner will be determined in a first-to-score basis.
17.  The top-three participating teams shall be declared Champion, 1st runner-up, and 2nd runner-up respectively.

 All declared winners shall be awarded during the Awards Night.
